Holyrood RC Secondary School on Glasgow’s south side is celebrating its 80TH Anniversary this session. One of the largest schools in Europe, we boast an extensive list of former pupils with many great academics, politicians, well-known sportsmen and sportswomen and musicians.
We began our year with a Parade from the School to Holy Cross Church for Mass celebrated by Archbishop Tartaglia. The St Francis Pipe Band led us off along Dixon Road to the Church. Pupils, Teachers, Parents and former pupils joined us to mark the occasion.
After Mass it was back to the school for refreshments and tours of the building, much of which has been in everyday use since 1936. We still have the biggest roll in Glasgow with over 2000 young people attending. We welcome visitors every week who return to their old school for which they clearly hold great affection. Many have made their homes in other parts of the country or indeed the world.
Nowadays we have a strong multi-cultural population but still our values of respect, love and care for others are high on our agenda.
Here’s to the next 80 years!
A big thank you to our senior pupils Jack Maguire, Flynn Smith, Csian Canave and Matthew Murphy for photographing the celebrations.
