I am delighted to welcome you to our Holyrood website and hope that you will find the content interesting and informative.
Holyrood RC Secondary School came into existence in 1936 and has a very proud tradition of providing quality education in the South Side of Glasgow. Many students have gone on to achieve great success in their lives in part due to the excellent grounding they received in Holyrood. We have many famous individuals among our former pupils. For example; Lady Helena Kennedy Q.C. Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill of Simple Minds, Fran Healy of Travis, Willie Haughey , entrepreneur , Charlie Gallagher [Lisbon Lions' Squad], Pat Crerand and Alan Brazil, international footballers , Lee McConnell , Olympic athlete, Joe McFadden , actor, Des Clark , comedian, Pat McFadden , MP and lots of others.
We are especially proud of the tens of thousands of former pupils who have left Holyrood ready to contribute to the societies and communities in which they live. These are caring neighbours, honest tradesmen, servant leaders, religious, teachers, lawyers, doctors, dentists, nurses, and many more who have simply benefited from the rounded and comprehensive education they received here in Holyrood Secondary School.
Holyrood is not only Scotland’s largest school it is also one of its most successful. We consistently achieve performances in SQA Examinations which match national standards and far exceed the attainment of similar schools.
In addition to academic success Holyrood pupils also excel in a range of sports, in art and in the performing arts, examples of which you will find on this website.
We are a Catholic Christian community and a truly Comprehensive school. We welcome young people from other faith traditions who share our values and we seek to meet the needs of young people from a very wide range of socio-economic , cultural and ethnic backgrounds. In short, we are a diverse and high achieving school.
Of fundamental importance, however, are the values which lie at the heart of our Catholic school, the values of the Gospel. Those are the values which underpin all that we do in Holyrood and it is our central mission to ensure that our young people develop in a caring Christian ethos. Pupils are given many opportunities to give witness to their faith and values, examples of which can be found on our website. Love, justice and compassion for others are of particular importance to us.
